Holy Church of the Entry of the Theotokos in Choristi

The I. Church of the Entry of the Theotokos in Choristi, Drama, combines in its architecture the post-Byzantine tradition with the modernist currents of the West and is a large three-aisled basilica that ends in a semicircular arch to the east. The church had an earlier construction phase in 1824 according to an inscription embedded in the arch, it was rebuilt in 1906 according to an inscription, while the doors were opened on 27-4-1907. The temple has four entrances and its floor is paved with early 20th century tiles. A bell tower rises on the west side of the church.

The architectural design of the temple is due to the Austrian engineer Konrad von Vilas, while the marble work was done by the Tinian craftsman Vasilios Skoutaris. The frescoes of the church are attributed either to Konstantinos Parthenis, or to Pavlos Zografopoulos. Portable icons of the temple are also attributed to them. Michael Dimopoulos also collaborated on the painting. Also, the whole of its ware is an important testimony for the history of art in the Prefecture of Drama during the post-Byzantine period.
