Pagoneri is a rural village in the prefecture of Drama near the Greek-Bulgarian border, which has been classified as a traditional settlement since 1983 and maintains the air of another era. The settlement is built entirely of stone, in the model of the Macedonian shape, with large comfortable houses, which testify to the economic strength of another era, or at least its increased population, also a phenomenon of another past era. It is located at an altitude of 750 m, east Nestos is its natural border, while to the north it touches the Bulgarian border with the settlement of Katahloros. To the west there are the settlements of Achladia, Mikroklesoura and the abandoned Achladomilia.
The settlement was declared traditional in 1983 because of the architecture of the houses, the church and the bell tower. The church with its famous bell tower is the emblem of Pagoneri. It is the first thing you see when entering the traditional settlement and of course it stands out from any point The church was built in 1835. The visitor can look for the date carved on the church and of course admire the bells, which were built in 1832.
