The “Day of God” is organized by the Municipality of Prosotsani, the Local Community of Mikropolis and the Cultural Association of Mikropolis on the day of the feast of Saints Constantine and Helen at the chapel of Saint George.
The feast of God is an old custom of the inhabitants of Micropolis and dates back to around 1850. At that time it used to be celebrated in the spring before the day of Saints Constantine and Helen in the chapel of Saint George. On that day no resident of the village was working. Everyone joined in the call to ask God for good harvest and agricultural production in general. In 1850, on the day of the feast of Saint George, even though the Ottoman conquerors controlled Micropolis, the Christians climbed the hill and celebrated. At the time of the feast they began to fire rifles into the air, as was customary at that time. This fact worried the then Turkish military administration of the area, which immediately ordered the army to slaughter the Christians. And then the Miracle happened. Thunder and lightning filled the sky while the great earthquake that followed was considered a sign from God. This event alarmed the Ottomans and caused them to stop the massacres by celebrating together, Muslims and Christians, this particular day as “GOD’S DAY”.
