Old Church of Agios Georgios, Nikiforos

Old Church of Agios Georgios, Nikiforos

The old church of Agios Georgios was built in 1880 and functioned until 1980. It was originally a mosque. But when the Turks left, the inhabitants enlarged it from the front and the back and made it a church. It is built of stone, but it has been plastered over and is not visible.
The courtyard is very large and in the middle there is an old fountain. To the west of the Church you can see the ruined walls of the old Tolmaidis High School.
Inside the church there is the iconostasis which is empty. The icons have been transferred to the new Holy Church of Agios Georgios. The chandelier has remained and in the beautiful gate, the door with the image of Christ. There are no wall paintings in the Temple.
