The historical Perithori, the “Soul of Macedonia” as it was named for the national struggles of the Greek inhabitants. Built on the slopes of a hill, the village has been declared traditional for its architecture.
Above Perithori dominates the height of Agios Konstantinos and the legendary fortress of Perithori which bravely faced the German attack in 1941. As a sign of honor to the fallen, a marble column with an eagle on top and marble plates with the names of the dead were built heroes at its base, while next to it there is a metal cross in memory of the German soldiers who lost their lives during the German invasion.
In Perithori, the church of Agios Nikolaos (1835) is preserved, decorated on the outside with brick crosses and the impressive bell tower of 1911. Another church in the village of historical and artistic interest is that of Zoodochos Pigi (1876) with a vaulted roof and images by the iconographer Stergios Georgiadis since the 19th century. The depiction of the divine eye on the ceiling alludes to influences from the workshops of Mount Athos, where the local artist and prominent proctor of the Greek community of Nevrokopi studied.
