Mountain Falakro

With an altitude of 2,232 meters, Falakro dominates with its volume in the northern part of Drama. It is connected in the west with Orvilos, while in the east it ends in the valley of Nestos, which separates it from Central Rhodope. There is a ski resort at Falakro just above the village of Volakas.

The Ski Centre is organised and caters for ski and snowboard activities, and has a fanatic audience of visitors annually, due to its long hours of operation. In addition, there is plenty of snow all winter long as the base of the ski resort is at 1720m, and the slopes are at an altitude of up to 2232m.

It offers a range of options to the visitor for all levels of skiers and for all types of skiing because it provides an excellent quality of snow, many north, northwest and northeast slopes – natural slopes located at an altitude of over 2000 m., the absence of terrain and at the same time slope variations.

It has 21 tracks of varying degrees of difficulty, with a total length of 17 km, with lengths ranging from 230 m to 1500 m, but also long-distance tracks of more than 2500 m in length and a great difference in altitude from 2232 m to 1615 m on northern tracks, which are also suitable for sporting events.

In the Ski Centre there are:

  • Three sliding lifts, one four-seater aerial chairlift, one two-seater aerial chairlift and three baby lifts, serving the 21 slopes of the resort.
  • One snowmobile run.
  • Three chalets, two at the base of the ski area and one at the four-seater chairlift finish, with a panoramic view at an altitude of 2110 m. One of the chalets at the base of the centre has a restaurant and can accommodate 80 people overnight.
  • Catering points.
  • Points of sale and rental of ski equipment with ski schools.

However, it is also suitable for other activities, such as a simple walk, as it combines wonderful views in all directions: the lake of the river Nestos and the Bulgarian border, the magnificent Pyrgos Gorge, the plain of Drama, Pangeo, Thassos, Athos, the Aegean, and even Mount Olympus with good weather conditions.
