Observation in Falakro Mountain

Observation in Falakro Mountain

Falakro is a unique mountain in beauty and biodiversity with an altitude of 2232m, characterized by large alpine areas, steep cliffs and dense forests, defining the landscape and wildlife in the east of Macedonia.

It is a habitat of particular botanical interest that has been described as a ‘mountain of flowers’. Wild orchids, oak trees, succulents, crocuses, redbuds, primroses, primroses, oregano, thyme, mint and many, many other rare and common plants make up a symphony for all the senses. Of particular interest in Falakro is the north side. On its densely wooded slopes, today, above the course of the river Nestos, there are ruins of old abandoned villages literally choked with oaks, anchors, chestnuts, ferns and beech trees.

Falakro Mountain is famous for the rare and endangered butterfly species that live here. Wildlife observers and entomology enthusiasts come for a rare opportunity to photograph species from the animal kingdom. Also, at altitudes above 1000 meters, one can spot the herds of wild horses found in the meadows of Falakro.
